On June 18, 2026, the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences hosted a celebration marking the 80th birthday of Professor Arvydas Virgilijus Matulionis.
Welcoming the audience, Professor of SociologAušra Maslauskaitė, a member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, remarked that if all of Professor Matulionis’s former and current students were counted together, they would make up a Lithuanian community large enough to qualify as a city. Such a city—“Matulionis’s Žagarė”—could gather in an assembly and share the lessons its residents have learned.
